Endoscopic Ultrasound-Guided Fine-Needle Aspiration Vs Fine-Needle Biopsy.
RM The primary goal of fine-needle aspiration is to acquire individual cells as opposed to tissue, which is the aim of fine-needle biopsy. Cells may not necessarily provide the stroma, or the associated architecture, of the surrounding tissue. Thus, if the surrounding architecture is needed to make a diagnosis, a fine-needle biopsy, which typically uses a core biopsy needle, should provide that.
متن کاملEndoscopic ultrasound guided fine needle aspiration versus endoscopic ultrasound guided fine needle biopsy in sampling pancreatic masses
BACKGROUND The comparison between endoscopic ultrasound guided fine needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) and endoscopic ultrasound guided fine needle biopsy (EUS-FNB) for the diagnosis of pancreatic masses is still controversial. Many factors can affect the final results. METHODS Databases, such as PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, and Science Citation Index updated from 2000 to 2016 were searched to ...
متن کاملNeoplasia in Chronic Pancreatitis: How to Maximize the Yield of Endoscopic Ultrasound-Guided Fine Needle Aspiration
When performing endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration (EUS-FNA), identifying neoplasia in the setting of chronic pancreatitis can be technically challenging. The morphology of an ill-defined mass on sonography, presence of calcifications or intervening collaterals, reverberation from a biliary stent, low yield of tissue procurement, and interpretative errors in cytopathology can r...
متن کاملGastric glomus tumor diagnosed by endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration biopsy: report of a case.
A glomus tumor of the stomach is rare. It is difficult to diagnose the tumor before surgery by only endoscopic biopsy and radiography, and there is no established method of diagnosis before surgical treatment. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) on a 50-year-old Japanese woman revealed a 10 mm submucosal tumor in the anterior wall of the gastric angle. Follow-up EGD revealed an increase in the siz...
متن کاملRetroperitoneal schwannoma diagnosed by endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration.
A 59-year-old white man was referred for evaluation of epigastric pain that was radiating to his back and a 5-kg weight loss over 6 months. A computed tomography (CT) scan revealed a heterogeneous low-attenuation tumor, measuring 5cm in size, adjacent to the celiac artery and the pancreatic body (●" Fig.1). Sectorial endoscopic ultrasound (GF-UCT140-AL5; Olympus America Inc., New York, USA), co...
